L-argenine. Topically, L-aregenine is used as an aid in wound healing, for treating cold hands and feet, and for male and female sexual dysfunction. It is best known for its effects on the vascular system. L-argenine is a substrate for the nitric oxide synthese (NOS) enzyme. NOS, is vascular endothelial ceels, converts L-argenine to nitric oxide (NO), also known as endothelium-derived relaxation and fctor (EDRF), which causes smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow.
